George Thomas Tait papers, 1972-1988.

This collection contains material related to Tait's athletic activities with Penn State and Olympic volleyball. The majority of the collection centers on Tait's years as head coach of Penn State's men's volleyball team with a limited amount of material concerning his six years as coach of the women's volleyball team, prior to and following varsity status in 1976. Included are seasonal results for almost every match, 1979-1987, records of internal correspondence, scheduling, recruitment, and other administrative duties from uniform selections to development event programs. A large collection of correspondence between Tait and NCAA officials when he served on the NCAA Coaches Committee is included. Penn State membership in the Eastern Collegiate Volleyball League (ECVL) is discussed. Also, includes promotional information and team itineraries for varsity tours and international matches to promote the development of the sport in the east. Tait's activities in regional and international coaching assignments and other independent affiliates are documented. Also, includes scrapbooks of the men's volleyball program, 1974-1979 and 1981, and videocassettes of some volleyball matches, 1976-1986.

After attaining his Ph.D. in 1969, George Thomas Tait became associate professor of Exercise and Sport Science at Pennsylvania State University, and head volleyball coach, 1972-1989, after helping both the men's and women's club teams to reach varsity status. He also coached the United States Olympic volleyball teams, 1984 and 1988.
